YOUR MISSION

Go outside on a clear night and take a look up at all the stars in the sky. Have a look around and try and find a group of stars that look like a Sauce Pan. There should be around 7 bright stars that make up the pattern! But what does it look like to you?

Well known groups of stars in the night sky are called Asterisms.

Different Civilisations around the world thought the Sauce Pan looked like different objects. In Britain it's also known as the Plough and in America, the Big Dipper! Some people thought it looked like a Fish and some like a Kite.

All the patterns in the sky look different to everyone, but it seems that a lot of different countries around the world see the same pattern of stars, it's just what looks like a Chariot to one person, may look like a Fishing Net to another.

Always make sure you know where you are stepping when walking around in the dark!
